Raising min. Wages

I think we should raise minimum wages in the states for the better of families that are making less than 10 dollars a hour. NELP (national employment law project) said that people between 25-34 are affected by 24.1%, just because they are living on minimum wage. the NELP said that
"Raising the minimum wage is a key strategy for boosting consumer spending, and one of the only ways to do so that doesn’t worsen state or federal budget deficits. The scale of this spending can be significant. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, every $1.00 in wage increase for a minimum wage worker results in $3,500 in new consumer spending by his or her household over the following year." Los angles times said that "a family with three said they will fall under the poverty line if they are paid minimum wage." Main street stated "that there was still 11 states under 10 dollars a hour, which in a 3 year effect family's will fall under poverty line."

Arizona - $7.80
  • Colorado - $7.78
  • Florida - $7.79
  • Missouri - $7.35
  • Montana - $7.80
  • Ohio - $7.85
  • Oregon - $8.95
  • Rhode Island - $7.75
  • Vermont - $8.60
  • Washington - $9.19
  • New York passed an increase to $9 an hour, which goes into effect over 3 years

  • These states are some of the most populated state with the lowest minimum wages. There for I think we should help these states to raise minimum wages to help family's pass the poverty line.
